Climate Crisis in Conversation

As part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science event, GroundsWell in Belfast ran a townhall meeting with the community in East Belfast on the climate crisis

On 3rd November 2022, the Belfast GroundsWell team, in collaboration with EastSide Partnership, organised a townhall meeting in East Belfast, discussing the climate crisis and how it impacts on the community in East Belfast. Dr Niamh O'Kane gave an overview of the GroundsWell project to kick off the evening, including the role of environmental injustice and inequalities. Jacqueline O'Hagan from EastSide Partnership then provided an overview of EastSide Partnership's role in the community, the Connswater Greenway and the opportunities for climate action it provides. Prof John Barry discussed the climate crisis and highlighted the impact on people's day to day lives. Participants then designed and displayed poster boards on which they were asked to highlight their key concern with regards to the climate crisis. It was a lively evening with lots of discussion on climate change and how GroundsWell might be able to integreate some of the concerns and actions raised by community members.
