Start a PhD - fully funded for three years

Across the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS), you’ll find a diverse range of fully funded PhD projects waiting to be explored. From creative arts to history, from law to social policy, and many other pathways - discover opportunities with purpose and immerse yourself in research that matters.

The NI Department for the Economy (DfE) studentships cover full tuition fees and substantial living costs for three years. The funding is primarily available to UK and ROI nationals, and EU nationals with settled status. The University can allocate up to 30% of DfE studentships to international applicants (DfE International Studentships cover a stipend and full tuition fees). All applicants must meet the academic criteria.
