Recognising the increasing importance of technological innovation in legal practice, our programme stands out with a strong emphasis on developing tech-savvy and tech-aware law graduates, qualities highly sought after by employers. With modules tailored for maximum employability impact, we provide insights into the latest legal developments, drawing on our expertise in technology, e-governance, and innovation.
Belfast, ranked as the world's top destination for FinTech development investment and the leading international location for US cybersecurity projects, sets the stage for your transformative journey. Dive into an employability-focused curriculum where legal firms actively contribute to content development, employers showcase technology applications, and students engage in hands-on experiences, including the 'Creativity and Innovation clinic' and collaborative work with MSc Cybersecurity students.
Queen's is ranked in the top 150 universities in the world for Law (QS World Rankings 2023) and has excellent connections with multi-national law firms in Belfast such as Allen & Overy, Baker McKenzie, Arthur Cox etc. This advanced programme helps students gain a deep appreciation of how law interacts with technological innovation, for instance, with generative AI; or autonomous vehicles; or algorithmic decision-making in courts. What social challenges are posed by technological change? How does law address those challenges? And what impact does technological innovation have on the practice of law?
Drawing on the School of Law’s substantial profile in technology, e-governance, intellectual property and innovation, students on the programme have the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in law, governance and the ‘fourth industrial revolution.’
The LLM Law and Technology programme places employability skills at its heart. Employers are very interested in law graduates who are tech-savvy and are clear and comfortable communicators, whether with clients or more generally. Guest contributors from major firms co-create our curriculum and are active in introducing LawTech applications in our teaching. We embed skills-development directly into the curriculum as such, through project-based learning work, computational skills and elsewhere.
Students can also benefit from the new industry-led mentoring programme to help you to acquire hands-on and industry-specific experience with firms such as PWC.
