Gradstonbury 2023

We can't wait for our very first Gradstonbury on August 10th at the Wee Bar in the SU and are delighted to be able to announce our first three performers.

We'll be joined by Poet, Maggie Doyle, from the School of Arts, English and Languages. Maggie is studying an MA in Poetry and is the author of 'Mountain Notes - A Nature Diary', a memoir/meditation about the farm and landscape where she grew up in the Dromara hills, which was published in 2022. Maggie was shortlisted for the Samus Heaney Prize for New Writing in 2023, and on the night will be from her poetry and from Mountain Notes.

Following Maggie will be Samridhi Saini and the Raabta Dance Community. Samridhi is in the final year of her PhD, writing a thesis on 'The Role of South Asian Organisations in Cultural Policymaking.' She will be performing a semi-classical dance with the dance troop Raabta Dance Community.

Our third announced act is Award Winning Short Story Writer, Emma Devlin. Emma is in the final year of her PhD in Creative Writing at the Seamus Heaney Centre. Her thesis is made up of a creative component and a critical component. The creative component is a collection of short stories which, broadly, study "life in the Anthropocene", and explore themes of landscape, agency, anxiety, and the instability of place. The critical component studies the work of H.P. Lovecraft. Her short fiction has appeared on The Irish Times website, been broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster, and was most recently shortlisted for the Mairtín Crawford Short Story Award.
