Have you ever wondered what happens when you eat various foods such as crisps, toast, or drink glucose?

Join Dr Chris Johnson on Wednesday 8 June, 11am-12pm (BST) as he investigates measuring blood glucose after eating various foods.

  • Learn about how glucose is absorbed and how levels in the blood are controlled by insulin
  • Investigate how this goes wrong in diabetes, and discuss patient experiences of diabetes
  • Have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session
  • Experience an authentic practical class through interactive activity
  • Speak with current international students on the Biomedical Science course

Biomedical Sciences at Queen's

What is Biomedical Science?

Biomedical scientists focus on how cells, organs and systems function in the human body; an area that is highly relevant to the understanding and treatment of human diseases.

What will I learn?

Biomedical Science comprises the sciences related to medicine and in particular these specialist disciplines of diagnostic Biomedical Science as practised in Health Service Laboratories: Clinical Bacteriology and Immunology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion Science, Histopathology and Cytology.

Where will my degree take me?

The course is aimed at students wishing to pursue a career in: Diagnostic laboratory science, Clinical trials, Government or Charity-funded research laboratories or a career in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology Industries.
