What happens after I accept my offer?
Once you accept your offer you should aim to meet any outstanding conditions of your offer (academic and/or English language, where applicable) and pay the required deposit by the deadline stated in the offer letter. You will receive information on how to complete online registration, set up your Queen’s IT account and prepare for arrival. We will also share more detail about your welcome and induction programme.
- When will I get my Queen’s student number and email address?
Your student number, password and email address are created after you accept your offer and your place is confirmed. These details will be sent within the first 2 weeks of January, to the personal email address you used in your application.
- How and when do I register as a student?
Registration has two parts. First, you complete an online process that checks your personal details. Then, when you arrive, there will be on-campus sessions for ID checks, document checks and issuing your student card. You will receive step-by-step instructions and dates closer to the start of your programme.
- Do I need to bring original documents with me?
Yes. You should bring your passport and any original qualification documents listed in your offer letter. These will be checked during on-campus registration.
- Is there a welcome and induction programme for my intake?
Yes. There will be a structured welcome and induction period for your cohort, including programme briefings, campus tours, introductions to key staff and sessions on using Queen’s systems. Will I get information about my timetable before I arrive?
You will receive information about your expected teaching pattern and key dates in advance. Your detailed timetable is usually finalised shortly before classes begin and will be shared once it is ready.
- What happens if I feel stressed or find it hard to adjust?
The wellbeing of our students is a top priority at Queen’s University, and we remain committed to supporting you throughout your studies. The Student Services Team are available to support you.
- Will I have access to Queen’s online systems and library before I arrive?
Once your IT account is set up you can log in to your Queen’s email, the virtual learning environment and online resources which are available for your programme. We will let you know when each system becomes available to you.
- Can I defer my place if my circumstances change?
Deferral is not guaranteed and is subject to individual programme rules. If you wish to request a deferral, you should email Admissions at intl.admissions@qub.ac.uk. Admissions will review the request and advise in due course whether a deferral is approved.
- Is there help with academic English?
Yes. All students can access help to strengthen academic communication in English. This may include access to workshops and online resources. It is designed for any student who wants to feel more confident with university-level writing, reports, presentations and communication in academic settings, whether or not English is your first language.

The Academic English Service (AES) helps you develop the language and academic skills you'll need to succeed at Queen's, while navigating any cultural differences along the way.

What should I do if I have a disability or long-term health condition?
You are encouraged to tell us about any disability or long-term condition as early as you can. For more information, you can visit Accessible Learning Support or complete the online Get-Started form to discuss reasonable adjustments and support.
Completing the form allows Accessible Learning Support to work with you and relevant University staff to put appropriate arrangements in place. This may include exam arrangements, access to learning materials in alternative formats, or agreed adjustments in teaching and learning environments. An Individual Student Support Agreement (ISSA) will be created and shared with relevant University staff to ensure they are implemented.
Any information you share will be treated sensitively and used only to help put appropriate support in place.

STUDENT EXPERIENCE AT GIFT CITY
GIFT City postgraduate taught students will have access to the Thomas J. Moran Graduate School’s online skills programme, designed to support your academic success and confidence at postgraduate level
This includes an Academic Writing Series (academic integrity, avoiding plagiarism, writing style, critical reading and note-taking, and writing key sections such as introductions, literature reviews, and conclusions). You can also join sessions focused on progressing your work steadily, such as Postgraduate Productivity workshops and the Wake Up and Write programme.
Students will also be able to take part in skills sessions that support professional and academic communication, including presenting, networking, and collaboration. In addition to workshops, GIFT City students will have access to 1:1 academic skills appointments for tailored support with writing, study strategies and academic communication.
It is common to feel pressure at points in your studies, especially when adjusting to a new environment.

Once your IT account is set up, you can access Queen’s GIFT City library resources, which include e-books, e-journals and databases, along with other Library services.

INDUCTION INFORMATION
Students will take part in an induction programme when they commence in January, during which they will receive essential information about the University, student support services, IT and learning systems, meet key staff, and begin building networks with fellow students.
