Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Security
The Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Security group, led by Dr Kieran McLaughlin, seeks to investigate cyber security for ICS, smart grids, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), cyber-physical systems, and related operational technologies (OT) and critical infrastructure networks.
Resilience in ICS
- Network intrusion detection for smart grid and water utilities
- New responses to ICS cyber attacks to improve resilience
- Practical threat models (diamond model, kill-chain approaches)
- Pen-testing of ICS networks and devices
Cyber-physical Situation Awareness in Electric Power Systems
- Microgrid operations, power islanding, PMU security
- Integrated platforms for cyber-physical situation awareness
Smart Substation of the Future
- Over the horizon, secure smart grid technology demonstrations
- Migrating substation applications and control loops to the cloud – security and resilience challenges
Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) security
- Vulnerability analysis of PLC devices, networks, and protocols
- Cyber security for legacy devices and networks
