Call for papers

ORAHS 2026: Transforming healthcare systems through digital innovation and artificial intelligence   

It is a pleasure to invite you to the 52nd annual meeting of the EURO Working Group on Operational Research Applied to Health Services (ORAHS). The conference is organised by Queen’s University Belfast.

ORAHS provides a network for researchers and practitioners involved in the application of systematic and quantitative analysis in support of planning and management in the health services sector. The conference is open to anyone with a quantitative background and those who have interest in the subject area, including practitioners and decision makers. A well-developed social programme provides great opportunities for informal discussions and friendly get-togethers with members and accompanying families.

Topics of interest

Include but are not limited to: Access and waiting lists, Artificial Intelligence, Capacity and network planning, Care Pathways, Clinical modelling, Cost effectiveness and health economics, Data analysis and risk management, e-health, Emergency Medical Services, Epidemiology and disease modelling, Forecasting, Healthcare policy modelling, Home care and Long Term Care, Machine Learning, Modelling and simulation, Patient scheduling, Process optimisation, Screening and prevention, Staffing and capacity planning, Strategic and operational planning, Statistical modelling, and Teaching OR.

Guide for authors

Three types of abstract submission are available: 1. Regular (15 mins + 5 mins Q&A), 2. Discussion (5 mins + 15 mins discussion) and 3. Poster (a 1 minute poster pitch + a dedicated session to be available for Q&A). All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the scientific and organising committee.

  • The deadline for all submission is 24.04.2025.
  • Notification of acceptance for regular talks will be sent by email on 05.05.2025.
  • All abstracts must be written in English; <1500 characters; no formulas or mathematical notation.
  • Keywords are not required.
  • All accepted abstracts will be available on the conference website and in the conference handbook.

Guidelines

Discussion talk

(Abstract in organised session)

  • 5 mins + 15 mins discussion
  • Presentations must contatin open questions, e.g. the general research direction, or methodology etc.
  • Should not be short regular talks.
  • Non-scientfic discussions on the state of the field, current and future challenges are encouraged.
  • Discussion talks will be organised into parallel sessions.

Regular talk

(Contributed abstract)

  • 15 mins + 5 mins Q&A
  • Oral presentations will be organised into parallel sessions.

Poster

(Poster presentation)

  • The presenting author will be required to give a 2 minute presentation about their poster,
    • for example who they are, the name of their poster and where it can be found.
  • There will be a dedicated poster session.
  • Authors are encourage to display there posters as early as possible.
  • Posters can be landscape or portrait.
  • Poster boards can accommodate A0 posters which we recommend.
  • Methods to attach posters to poster boards will be provided.
  • All posters by Early Career Researchers and students will be entered into the Steve Gallivan Award.
