School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences | PhD

The School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences trains ~250 postgraduate research students undertaking PhD, MD and MPhil degrees in Cancer Research, Experimental Medicine, Public Health and Medical Education.

Its diverse postgraduate student population comprises both basic and clinical scientists from across the globe engaged in wide-ranging research projects spanning the breadth of the School’s research portfolio from bioinformatics through molecular and cell biology to clinical trials.

School of Pharmacy | PhD

The School of Pharmacy focuses its research activities on key areas of the pharmaceutical sciences and clinical and primary care aspects of pharmacy. Themes include, Nanomedicine and Biotherapeutics, Pharmaceutical Materials Science and Formulation, Drug Delivery and Biomaterials, Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Delivery and Medicines Optimisation.

Our research spans a wide range of scientific and professional disciplines. It is characterised by being multidisciplinary, internationally-connected and, ultimately, relevant to patients.

School of Nursing and Midwifery | PhD

From Maternal and Child Health, to Chronic Illness and Palliative Care, our research is changing and improving care for people at every stage of life – from their first breath to their last.

Your research will be hosted in our School and linked to the interdisciplinary and university wide Centre For Evidence and Social Innovation and the Graduate School, extending your potential in the UK and internationally.

School of Biological Sciences | PhD

The School of Biological Sciences provides PhD and MPhil (research degree) programmes in subjects ranging from basic biochemistry, molecular genetics and cancer research, to agricultural science, marine ecology and the economic evaluation of ecosystem services and food retailing. 

The School is organised into three research theme clusters: Ecosystem Biology and Sustainability, Microbes and Pathogen Biology and Food Safety and Nutrition.
