Prestigious Award from Royal Society of Chemistry

12 June, 2024

Professor Steven Bell has been awarded the RSC’s 2023 Theophilius Redwood Prize

The Theophilus Redwood Prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to the chemical sciences in the area of analytical chemistry. It is open to UK and international candidates and the winner receives £3000, as well as a medal and the opportunity to complete a UK lecture tour.

Professor Bell’s prize was awarded for his “pioneering work in developing Raman and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) for quantitative chemical analysis.”

Professor Theophilus Redwood (1806-1892) , after whom the award is named:

Professor Bell commented: “I’m delighted to receive such a prestigious award but, as anyone who has run a research group will know, this is really an acknowledgement of the hard work and creativity of all  the students, postdocs and collaborators who have been involved in the research.”

Further details about this award are available at the 2024 Prizes section of the RSC’s  website:
