SMAE Researchers Among the Postdoc Award Winners at QUB Showcase Event.

This year's winners for the EPS Postdoc Prizes were announced at the recent Postdoc Showcase Event at queens.  The prizes are awarded across a nuber of categories and aim to recognise the exceptional contributions of postdocs to Queens University. In particular, the prizes aim to reward those who excel in what they do, who “go the extra-mile” in their research, in their contribution to the life of the University, in their contribution to Public Engagement and in the provision of support for their group, colleagues, School etc.  Among the winners were Dr Martin Murtagh (SMAE - Exceptional support prize) and Dr Zara Gibson (EEECS & graduate of SMAE - Postdoc citizenship prize).

Martin is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Sir William Wright Technology Centre at Queen’s.  He has been with the Centre since it was founded. During his time with W-TECH, he has provided continuous support to all of the PhD and Postdoctoral Research Fellows who have joined since (now totalling 17 students and staff) – and he has been at the core of developing a positive and supportive environment.

Zara is a Post Doctoral researcher in the School of EEECS where she is working on a collaborative, Thales sponsored project which is jointly supervised by EEECS and SMAE.  In addition to her research role, she has been instrumental in Athena SWAN based iniatives in both Schools and was an active member of the SMAE Research culture committee.  She is currently a member of the EPS postdoc society.

Well done to all of the award winners!
