Aerospace PhD Researcher, Emily Bond, was Runner-Up at this year's FameLab Ni Regional Final as part of the NI Science Festival

Aerospace PhD Researcher, Emily Bond, NI Regional Runner-Up 2025

School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering PhD Researcher Emily Bond was NI Regional Runner-up FameLab NI Regional Final as part of the NI Science Festival this week.

FameLab challenges participants to break down complex topics in an engaging and accessible way - no slides or jargon, just pure passion for science.

Emily took to the stage with her captivating talk, "Why Planes Shouldn't be Made of Spaghetti", unravelling the mystery behind wobbly aeroplane wings, the dangers of stiffness, and why pasta isn’t the ideal material for aircraft!

As a PhD researcher in Aerospace Engineering, Emily is passionate about making science engaging and accessible. Her research explores Modelling Lightweight Structures under Extreme Thermal Events.
