XP Experiences in Tech

XP Experiences in Tech

Applications for 2025 have now closed. All applicants will receive an email in the near future with details about their application.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to have a career in tech?

Do you enjoy programming, electronics or gaming, but not sure where they can take you?

Do you want to spend 5 days exploring the exciting and engaging work that happens inside a school dedicated to computing and engineering?

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS) is planning to offer 5 days of Work Experience to a cohort of 50 secondary students between the 16th – 20th June 2025.

The 5 day programme will provide students with the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities, including robotics, programming, VR/AR, electronics, a hackathon, as well as learning about the different careers’ options available to computing and electrical and electronic engineering students.

To be eligible, students must be:

- intending to take AS-Level or A-Level mathematics (Mathematics is essential for EEE subjects and desirable for Computing Subjects at Queen's)

- have an interest in either computer science (including software engineering, business information technology and computing information technology) and/or electrical and electronic engineering and computer engineering.)

Please note that the programme will be held onsite in the Computer Science Building and Ashby Building, between 9.30am and 4.30pm each day.

If you want to apply to be considered for the programme, you must:

- have prior permission from your School (and parent / legal guardian).

- complete and submit the form (see below)     APPLICATIONS CLOSED FOR 2025

For any student who successfully obtains a place on the work experience programme, the applicant’s School must provide details of their insurer, and details of indemnity provided to the University in respect of the placement. (ask your careers teacher!)

All students participating on the programme will be given a full induction, including a compulsory health and safety talk. All sessions will be supervised by School staff, except for the lunch break. We expect students to remain in our buildings during each programme day and that they will make their own way to and from the university. The School reserves the right to end the work experience at any time.
