Celebrate Leadership & Inspiration, Alumni Evening at Queen’s University Belfast

 

We are delighted to welcome inspirational key guest speakers to Queen's University and to the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics.  Join us as they share their journeys from studying the humanities and social sciences to becoming leaders in their fields. This event is also a wonderful chance for students to connect with alumni, hear their stories, and discover how the skills gained at university provide a foundation for a range of careers.

Greg Quinn OBE
Owner and Founder Aodhan Consultancy Ltd

Former senior diplomat with extensive global postings across the Caribbean, North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Greg Quinn left the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in June 2024 after 29 years of service. Over those 29 years he served in: Estonia; Ghana; Belarus; Iraq; Washington DC (seconded to the State Department); Kazakhstan; and The Bahamas. From 2015-2020 he was High Commissioner (Ambassador equivalent) to Guyana and Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname before serving as Consul General Toronto, then Consul General Calgary and finally Political Counsellor Ottawa in 2022 and 2023. His last overseas posting was in early 2024 as the Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda.

Greg subsequently set up his own consultancy business, Aodhan Consultancy Ltd, which provides services to clients across a variety of project management, political analysis, risk management, and training areas.

Greg is an experienced Board member and is a Director of Scotways (the Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society – www.scotways.com). He is also a Director and Volunteer Secretary at GlenWyvis Distillery (Scotland’s only Community owned distillery – www.glenwyvis.com) and is a Member of the Governing Council at the Canada-UK Council.

In addition Greg serves as a Partner and Advisor to other consultancies including: Palisade Regional Advisors Inc in Guyana; Sabio: Latam Strategic Advisory in Brazil (www.sabiostrategy.com), and the United States based Transnational Strategy Group (www.transnationalstrategy.com).

Greg graduated with a Degree in International Politics and International History from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth and has a Masters in History from the Open University. Queen’s University Belfast awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Law in 2019 for distinction in public services. Greg was awarded an OBE for services to British foreign policy in Her Majesty The Queen’s 2021 Birthday Honours.

Katie Doran

Widely recognised as one of the most experienced public relations and public affairs specialists, Katie is a trusted adviser to CEOs, senior executives and boards of major global organisations. She brings deep expertise in developing and executing communications and advisory strategies for publicly listed companies, multinationals, private enterprises, public bodies and professional groups. Her work is known for its clarity, impact and ability to help organisations navigate high-stakes issues and opportunities.

Katie is actively involved in the business community and previously served on the Connect Leadership Team at Catalyst Inc. and the CBI Economic Affairs Committee. She is an Advisor to Ladies Who Launch, the global nonprofit founded by Sarah Friar that champions and empowers female entrepreneurs. She also serves on the Board of Business in the Community, contributing to national efforts to advance responsible and sustainable business practices.

A recognised business leader, Katie is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, where she studied French and Economic History.
