Professor Ludmilla Jordanova (Emeritus Professor of History and Visual Culture, Durham University) will deliver the Keith Jeffery Annual Lecture on 'Portraits as Public History: Visual Culture and Ages of Anxiety' at the Centre for Public History, Queen's University Belfast on 9 September 2025.

The mere existence of national portrait galleries - in London, Washington D.C. and Canberra for example - indicates their significance for public history.  In this lecture, Professor Jordanova will sketch how this is so through examples that resonate with the historical interests of Professor Keith Jeffery and speak to the idea of an 'Age of Anxieties'.
