Hillary Rodham Clinton Scholarship
The Hillary Rodham Clinton Award for Peace and Reconciliation

The University will provide a full tuition-fee waiver to an exceptional female student from the USA who wishes to pursue study in a field related to politics, conflict transformation or human rights. 

This award, created in the former Senator’s name, honours her long-standing commitment to peace, stability and education.

Vice-Chancellor’s International Attainment Scholarship

Four scholarships offering a 50% reduction on full tuition fees are available to exceptionally talented international students paying international tuition fee rates who will be starting their full-time postgraduate taught studies on an eligible programme at Queen’s University Belfast in the academic year 2026/27. Applicants can only apply and be considered for the Vice Chancellor’s International Attainment Scholarship-Postgraduate Taught after they have been offered a place to study on their chosen eligible programme and have FIRMLY accepted their offer

Thomas J Moran Memorial Endowment Fund Scholarships

The Thomas J Moran Memorial Endowment Fund Scholarships have been established by Mrs Joan Moran, widow of former Chancellor Thomas J Moran, and friends from the Mutual Bank of America to support postgraduate students in any discipline at Queen’s University Belfast.

Each year, the funding will support a minimum of one postgraduate (PGT or PGR) student in their first year of study (full-time) or their first two years of study (part-time).  Scholarship awardees will receive £10,000 (approx. $12,000) in one year (full-time study) or £5,000 (approx. $6,000) each year for two years (part-time study) covering tuition fees and an award to cover other expenses.

North–South (Ireland) Postgraduate Scholarships

Universities Ireland will offer four scholarships, each worth €25,000, to students who have been accepted to undertake a recognised Master’s degree or are entering the first year of a PhD programme at a university on the island of Ireland that is not in the same jurisdiction as the university where they have previously studied.

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.  
  • Commit to returning to your home country for at least two years after your scholarship ends.
  • Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience after graduating from your undergraduate degree. This is roughly equivalent to two years of full-time work, though it may have been completed over a different time period.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme. You must have finished your undergraduate studies at least two years before our application deadline, even if you have not yet received your certificate. However, you will need to have your certificate by the time of your interview.
  • Apply to three different and eligible  UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by 17:00 BST (UK time) 9 July 2026.

Queen’s Family Scholarship
Available to new international students

The Queen’s Family Scholarship is exclusively available to new international students entering Queen's University Belfast in the academic year 2026/27.    To be eligible for the Queen’s Family Scholarship students must hold an offer of a place on a programme at the Queen’s University Belfast campus, starting in the academic year 2026/27 and prior to commencement of study have met any academic and language conditions attached to their offer as stated in their offer letter.

The Copty Scholarship

This scholarship was set up in 2020 by Georgina Copty and Christopher McDowell to encourage students from Palestine to undertake postgraduate study at Queen’s University Belfast.

Two Copty scholarships will be awarded in academic year 2026-27:

The first will be for a student undertaking a one-year taught Masters degree within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, or The School of Law.

The second scholarship will be awarded to a student undertaking any one-year taught Masters programme at Queen’s University Belfast.

Value of the Scholarships

The Copty Scholarships provide successful applicants with international tuition fees for a taught Master’s degree and accommodation for one person, in Queen’s accommodation for the duration of the one-year master’s degree.

Additional funding support for travel and administrative fees may be available to the successful applicant.

Masters Endowments and Scholarships in HAPP

HISTORY

  • J.C. Beckett Bursary

    The J.C. Beckett bursary was established in 2000 in memory of Professor J.C. Beckett who served the University with great distinction as a scholar, teaching and its first Professor of Irish History from 1958 to 1975.

    The bursary is equivalent to the current cost of home fees (£7,700 for 2026-7 entry) for a student enrolled on the MA in History or MA in Public History, and specialising in Irish history.

    The bursary is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of School and MA History convenor. To apply, please submit a 750-800 word statement, a short CV (max. two pages), and a transcript of your UG degree results. The statement should indicate your academic achievements during your undergraduate degree, why you wish to study Irish history on the MA History or MA Public History at Queen’s University Belfast, and your intention to undertake a dissertation in an Irish history topic.

    Applications should be sent by email to: HAPPscholarships@qub.ac.uk by the deadline of 5pm (GMT) on 3rd August 2026. Please include ‘Beckett Bursary’ in the email subject line. The outcome will be communicated to applicants by 21st August 2026.

    The funds will be awarded in late November 2026 and is contingent upon completion of full-time enrolment on the MA History or MA Public History programme and confirmation of a MA dissertation topic related to Irish history.

  • Mary A. Gardiner Scholarship

    This scholarship was founded in 1965 under the will of Mrs Annette Winnard Gardiner, in memory of Mary A. Gardiner, a Master of Arts of the University.

    The scholarship shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Head of the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy & Politics, to assist postgraduate study, preferably in Classics, Ancient History, or Byzantine Studies.

    It is tenable along with any other scholarship, studentship or award whose regulations so permit. It may be awarded:

    EITHER To a student of this University who is about to graduate and wishes to embark on research, either full-time or part-time, for assistance in travel or for any other approved purpose; OR To a graduate of this University who is already engaged in research, either full-time or part time, for assistance in travel or for any other approved purpose; OR To a graduate of another university engaged in research, either full-time or part-time, for the purpose of visiting this University in connection with that research. In recommending the award, the Head of School will take into account the merits of the candidate and the purpose of the application.

    The Scholarship will be awarded by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the Head of School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy & Politics. Applications should be addressed in the first instance to the Head of School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy & Politics.

    Holders of the scholarship may apply for its renewal for a further year, up to a maximum of three years in all, but such applications for renewal will be considered in competition with any other applications for the scholarship.

  • Peel Prize

    The Peel Prizes were founded in 1861 by Sir Robert Peel, and are awarded for excellence in historical and philosophical studies. Two prizes, of £1,200 each, are offered annually. One prize will be awarded to a student enrolling on a full-time basis for an MA in History at QUB, and one prize to a student enrolling on a full-time basis for an MA in Philosophy at QUB. The prizes are awarded on the basis of outstanding performance in their primary degree.

    This prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of School. To apply, please submit a 600-750 word statement, a short CV (max. two pages) and a transcript of your UG degree results. The statement should highlight your academic achievements and also why you wish to study on either the MA History or MA Philosophy at Queen’s University Belfast.

    Applications should be sent by email to: HAPPscholarships@qub.ac.uk by the deadline of 5pm (GMT) on 3rd August 2026. Please include ‘Peel Prize application’ in the email subject line. The outcome will be communicated to applicants by 21st August 2026.

  • Robinson Award

    The Robinson Award was established in 2025 by David Robinson, to support MA students at Queen’s in the study of early modern history.  

    The award, to value of £2,000, will be granted on the recommendation of the Head of School. To apply, please submit a 600-750 word statement, a short CV (max. two pages), and a transcript of your UG degree results. The statement should highlight your academic achievements during your undergraduate degree, why you wish to study early modern history on the MA programme, and your intention to undertake a dissertation in an early modern history topic on the MA History or Public History at Queen’s University Belfast.

    Applications should be sent by email to: HAPPscholarships@qub.ac.uk by the deadline of 5pm (GMT) on 3rd August 2026. Please include ‘Robinson Award’ in the email subject line. The outcome will be communicated to applicants by 21st August 2026.

    The funds will be awarded in late November 2026 and is contingent upon completion of full-time enrolment on the MA History or Public History programme and confirmation of a MA dissertation topic related to early modern history.

POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

  • The Patrick Devine Bursary

    This bursary of $10,000 (£8,000) will be awarded to a student accepted onto the MA in Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen's University Belfast.

    The bursary is open to any student who has secured a place in this MA Programme.  An application will be submitted to the Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice. It will require the provision of a CV of no more than two pages, with two references, confirmation of acceptance onto the MA Programme and a official transcript of UG marks

IRISH STUDIES

  • McNeill Scholarship

    The Mary McNeill scholarship, to the value of £1,500, is open to US or Canadian citizens enrolled as full-time overseas students on the MA in Irish Studies at QUB.

    The scholarship is awarded by a panel from the Institute of Irish Studies, chaired by the Director of Irish Studies. To apply, please submit a 600-750 word statement, a short CV (max. two pages) and a transcript of your primary degree results. The statement should highlight your academic achievements during your primary degree and why you wish to study on the MA Irish Studies at Queen’s University Belfast.

    Applications should be sent by email to: HAPPscholarships@qub.ac.uk by the deadline of 5pm (GMT) on 3rd August 2026. Please include ‘McNeill Scholarship application in the email subject line. The outcome will be communicated to applicants by 21st August 2026.
