Hilary Tuohy MBA Graduate 2000
Hilary Tuohy shares how completing her MBA at Queen’s University Belfast opened global opportunities, helping her secure a role with AIB in New York, transforming her career trajectory and paving the way for success in international finance.
When I started my MBA with Queen’s, I was working in AIB Corporate Banking, Belfast. Subsequently AIB opened a Corporate Banking office in New York, and I applied for the job. Given my work experience to date, and the knowledge and experience I gained from completing my MBA, I was selected to join the team in NY.
This opportunity significantly changed the trajectory of both my career and ultimately my life path. I gained extensive valuable experience in this role which was incredibly rewarding, and provided opportunities for me which would have not been available otherwise.
After I left AIB, I worked in various other financial institutions and roles in NY.
Bringing my MBA skills into good use, I also spent a lot of time in the golf industry when in the US. I was the President of a national amateur golf organisation for ladies called Executive Women’s Golf Association which had 20,000 ladies nationwide in the US. In my final year as President, I negotiated to merge this organisation into the LPGA. It is now called the LPGA Am’s and has chapters all over the US, Canada and beyond. I spent 6 years on the LPGA Board as a result of that transaction and rolled off the board after the maximum 2 year term in Nov of 2023.
