Kathleen Jamie at River Mill 800 x 450
Visiting Poetry Fellow at the River Mill Retreat 2019

To coincide with the launch of our new space, we're creating a new Visiting Professorship of Creative Writing. This prestigious post, appointed every two years, will contribute to teaching and research, bringing expertise, creativity and new perspectives to the Centre’s expanding degree programmes, events, outreach activities and collaborations.

The Visiting Professor will join our other Professors, Visiting Scholars, and Faculty as we grow global partnerships and opportunities, raising the international profile of the Centre, Queen’s and Ireland’s writers past present and future. This will play an important role not only in attracting the best writers from around the world, but also in helping to connect local writers globally.

Seamus Heaney Chair of Poetry

Professor Nick Laird follows our late colleague Ciaran Carson as the Seamus Heaney Chair of Poetry.

Current visiting scholars

Visiting Poetry Fellow

Kathleen Jamie was our recent International Visiting Poetry Fellow, resident throughout November 2019.

The Ireland Chair of Poetry

Professor Frank Ormsby was resident with us in 2019-20. His annual lecture was a virtual event this year.

Fulbright Scholars

Professor Jenny Browne and Professor Greg Winston were resident with us in early 2020.

The Publishing Fellow

Manuela Moser is the inaugural Publishing Fellow, a role that supports the publishing of new work and sheds light on the industry.

Ciaran Carson Fellows

The inaugural Ciaran Carson Writing and the City Fellows are Louise Kennedy and Padraig Regan.

We maintain relationships with visiting academics after their terms end, continuing to work together and celebrate successes.

This year, fomer Fulbright Scholar Jenny Browne and her students at Trinity University in Texas joined our MA in Poetry students in our 2021 Ekphrasis Project. Our first cross-Atlantic poetry pamphlet and film is coming soon!
