Jonny's first book tackles a major question for British and Irish society: could and should we learn to live with lynx, wolves and bears again? He draws on his unique experience as a snow leopard conservationist and as a community farmer, as well as on over 50 interviews from seven countries. In conversation with MK Foster, Jonny discusses how he uses a popular science adventure travelogue format to bring our complex relationship with apex predators, and the contentious issue of their potential return to these islands, to life.

Jonny Hanson is an environmental social scientist at Queen's University Belfast and an award-winning social entrepreneur who set up and managed Northern Ireland’s first community-owned farm. Raised between Malawi, Africa, and Monaghan, Ireland, he has a PhD in snow leopard conservation from the University of Cambridge and is an Affiliate of the Snow Leopard Conservancy.

Dr. M.K. Foster is a poet, fiction writer, and historian of science from Alabama. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in The American Poetry Review, Nimrod, Kenyon Review, and elsewhere, and she has presented her research on Renaissance monstrosity, apocalypses, and sharks at the the National Museum of Denmark, Folger Shakespeare Library, the Newberry Library, and elsewhere. A 2024 MacDowell Fellow and a 2025 Dora Maar Fellow, Foster is the current Fulbright US Scholar in Creative Writing to the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queens University Belfast.

The Tuesday Group is a long-running creative writing workshop for prose writers at the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s, coordinated by Dara McWade. Their regular Write Night sees a break from the workshop format to feature guest writers offering insights into their own writing lives.
