HAPP colleagues hold leading international roles in the study of International Political Sociology

ISA

Dr Heather Johnson has been elected as Program Chair (2021-2022) and then Chair (2022-2023) for the International Political Sociology (IPS) section at the International Studies Association (ISA).

The ISA is a major international association, with over 7000 members, dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of global affairs.  IPS is one of the largest sections in the ISA and embodies a commitment to developing the social and cultural dimensions of international studies, bridging the local and the transnational through innovative methods and analysis, and moving away from state-centric and more traditional approaches.  Heather will curate the IPS program for the ISA Annual Convention in 2022, before taking the reins as Section Chair.  In her time, her focus will be to develop the interdisciplinarity and complexity of IPS, and to promote diversity in the section with attention to inclusivity and to building the accessibility of their work, their conversations, and their collective agenda.

As well as Heather’s leadership success, we have additional significant strengths in the field of international political sociology in the school.  Prof Debbie Lisle is currently editor of the journal International Political Sociology.

Debbie talks about her role as journal editor in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__uzZcxVMcY

In addition to editing the leading journal in the field, Debbie was awarded the Distinguished Scholar Award from the International Political Sociology Section of the International Studies Association in 2019. Debbie also convenes our MA in Global Security and Borders.
