Welcome to Dr Ciaran Canning
Dr Ciaran Canning - Research Assistant

I am a postdoctoral researcher working with Professor Aidan Feeney on an ESRC funded project titled Improving Health-Related Decision Making Through Anticipation of Future Emotions: A Unified Approach.
I completed a BSc. in Psychology in Dublin City University before obtaining an MSC. in Applied Neuropsychology from the University of Bristol. I have just completed my PhD here in the School of Psychology under the supervision of Professor Teresa McCormack and Dr Agnieszka Graham. My PhD looked at the role of episodic future thinking in children's delay of gratification. In particular, it investigated why children struggle to benefit from thinking about the future when making decisions.
My current project looks to apply episodic future thinking to the context of health-related decision making, with a particular focus on using episodic future thinking to enhance the salience of the future emotions that may arise from a particular decision.
