DOCTORATE IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY (DCLINPSY)

3 YEARS FULL TIME

The programme is a three year (36 month) postgraduate professional training course, accredited by the British Psychological Society as conferring eligibility for chartered status and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council as conferring eligibility to apply for registration as a clinical psychologist.

Our Doctorate in Clinical Psychology consists of 11 compulsory modules. The content includes:

  • Clinical presentations
  • Psychological assessment and formulation
  • Psychological therapies
  • Personal and professional development
  • Practice placements
  • Research

The academic modules are delivered at the university base and occur in blocks of varying sizes, at two stages of the year, supplemented by one academic day per week or fortnight, depending on stage of training.

Five placement modules take place in a variety of health service settings (e.g. in-patient/residential and out-patient, secondary healthcare and community/primary care) and involve direct work with clients, multidisciplinary work, indirect work and consultancy, drawing from one or more models of psychological therapy as specified.

Research occurs throughout the three years of training and involves research relevant to clinical theories and practice.
