Northern Ireland Geothermal Energy Week taking place 13 – 17 June 2022
Queen’s University Belfast and the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland are co-hosting a series of events during Northern Ireland’s inaugural Geothermal Energy Week from 13-17th June 2022.
To begin Northern Ireland Geothermal Week 2022, a geothermal conference and stakeholder consultation roundtable event will take place. Keynote speakers and panellists from across the UK, EU, and USA will present to over 120 delegates - all key stakeholders with interest in shaping a geothermal sector in Northern Ireland (NI).
Delegates will include senior NI government and non-departmental professional and policy officials, local government senior leaders, regulators, NGOs, academics, SMEs, and professional societies.
The aim of this event is to build upon the current momentum of civic interest in geothermal energy, to propose a draft geothermal vision for Northern Ireland, and to invite and capture stakeholders’ comments. The hope for is for delegates to welcome the draft geothermal vision with a view to a future government roadmap publication.
On Wednesday 15th June there will be a public discussion on the role that geothermal energy can play in Northern Ireland. People are invited to join the panel discussion live on Zoom, by registering at Heat beneath our feet: the role Geothermal energy can play in Northern Ireland.
A geothermal fieldtrip by bus to Scrabo Quarry, an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) will also take place later in the week. Invited guests will be guided by GSNI geologists, with input from other professionals working in the geothermal energy sector in the UK and EU.
Guests will include senior civil servants, council senior officials, directors of environmental organisations and charities, researchers and CEOs of SMEs.
