QCAP Director visits Oireachtas to Showcase Community-Engaged and All-Ireland Collaborations
At a showcase event in Leinster House, around 20 elected representatives engaged in discussions with the Queen’s academics on an all-island approach to tackling climate issues, community-focused research and healthcare provision.

At the event, wich included the attendance of three committee Chairs, Professor Kathryn Higgins, QCAP Director, highlighted the initiative’s work with and across communities in Belfast and beyond. She also provided a flavour of the all island initiatives QCAP are engaged in, notably the €7 million PEACE PLUS cross-border SEUPB-funded SUMIT project, working alongside colleagues in Trinity College Dublin and Dundalk Institute of Technology, as well as colleagues from Scotland.
Other initiatives include The Connected Communities Project collaboration between QCAP, CONNECT at Trinity College Dublin, and National College of Art and Design, Dublin (NCAD) - a pilot for a cross-border infrastructure for community-engaged research - as well as our recently awarded Community Science PhD on Climate/NetZero/Sustainability and Health.
In addition, and as an extension of Smart City-zens, QCAP is now looking to scale this approach through a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD programme, part of a European doctoral network led by Tyndall National Institute in Cork.
Professor Higgins also highlighted the report recently completed on 'A Social Economy for a Shared Island' written in partnership with Development Trusts NI and Carmichael.
