Frequency Stability with Renewable Generation Integration
Modern power generation has increased penetration of renewable generation, displacing generation from fossil fuel sources, such as coal, oil and gas. The integration of distributed generation (DG), especially wind power presents challenges to power system planners and operators. With increasing penetration of distributed generation in power systems, maintaining frequency stability while preserving system inertia is critical. This project will investigate methods to analyse frequency stability issues in the context of significantly increased DG penetration. The project will require research in applicable control mathematics, power system models and approaches for large-scale models where complexity is defined by high—dimension matrices.
Research Interests
Power system modelling, frequency stability, renewable generation, control engineering, power system operation.
