Biography
Yang Gao received his MEng in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Queen’s University of Belfast in 2008, and is currently working towards a PhD in Electrical Engineering. He was the best over prize winner of the QUB student entrepreneur competition “What’s the big idea” in 2008.
PhD Research Title: Analysis, protection, and operation of multi-terminal HVDC system considering DC faults. The aim of the project is to investigate the behavior of VSC based HVDC system during DC fault, and the necessary measures for system protection and post-fault operation. Half-bridge and full-bridge based MMC converters are considered and converter system optimization for successful DC fault handling is studied.
