School of Pharmacy's MPharm Programme Achieves Top UK Ranking in National Student Survey

21 July, 2025

The School of Pharmacy's MPharm degree programme has been ranked 1st in the UK for overall positivity in the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS), reflecting the exceptional quality of education and student experience offered by the programme.

This result is particularly significant as MPharm students who completed the survey this year are amongst the first cohort to graduate from the School's transformed MPharm degree programme.

Professor Lezley-Anne Hanna, Director of Education for the QUB MPharm degree programme, stated:

“To come 1st in the UK NSS for Pharmacy is a fantastic result, particularly as these students are the first cohort to complete the transformed MPharm degree programme. It is the perfect end to the academic year after our excellent accreditation outcome in March and graduation celebrations in June. Staff went above and beyond, working as a team, to ensure that our student pharmacists had an exceptional experience. I am delighted that this has been externally recognised with very high scores across all NSS themes. Our 2025 graduates are highly motivated, passionate about their future career as pharmacists, and will make significant contributions to person-centred care."

This achievement follows other significant achievements for the School in 2025, including being ranked 19th globally for Pharmacy and Pharmacology in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, and attaining an Athena Swan Gold Award from Advance HE, currently being the only School of Pharmacy in the UK and Ireland to hold this Award.

Speaking of the School's achievements, Professor Gavin Andrews, Head of the School of Pharmacy, commented:

"Achieving 1st place in the UK for Pharmacy in the 2025 National Student Survey, alongside our QS World Ranking of 19th and the Athena Swan Gold Award, is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire School community—both staff and students. This recognition reflects our shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and inclusion across our MPharm programme. I am immensely proud of the supportive and inspiring environment we have created, which empowers our students to thrive and become future leaders in healthcare and science."

The NSS is an annual survey that captures the opinions of final year undergraduate students about their university experience.

This latest recognition reinforces our position as a leading institution for pharmacy education and our commitment to preparing the next generation of pharmacists who will make meaningful contributions to healthcare and patient care.
