Postdoc Recognition for Dr Alice Cross and Dr Lalit Vora

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated National Postdoc Appreciation Week (20th – 24th September), an opportunity to reflect on the significant contributions that postdocs make to research.

Dr Lalit Vora and Dr Alice Cross

As part of this celebration, the Postdoctoral Development Centre (PDC) at QUB announced the winners of the Postdoc Awards. These awards aim to recognise the exceptional impact that postdocs make in the areas of public engagement, research, and provision of support to their colleagues and School.

A total of 47 postdocs throughout the faculty of MHLS were nominated across the prize categories with almost 20% of the nominations coming from the School of Pharmacy; acknowledgement of the significant role postdocs play within the School.

This year the PDC Postdoc Awards took place virtually with the winners announced on Wednesday 22nd September via the PDCs Twitter page @QUBPostdoc. Special recognition was paid to both Dr Alice Cross and Dr Lalitkumar Vora from the School of Pharmacy who were highly commended by the judging panel in the support category.

Dr Alice Cross is a research fellow in Gerd Wagner’s group. Alice initially completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Oxford, Somerville College, and her Ph.D. in Nic Harmer’s group (Biosciences) at the University of Exeter before relocating to NI in 2019. Alice took up her most recent position in Gerd’s group in the School in February 2021 having previously held roles in industry as a Molecular Team Leader (STI and NGS testing services) and lead scientist in the COVID testing labs at Randox.

Dr Lalit Vora is a research fellow in Prof Ryan Donnelly's group. Before coming to NI, he completed his Ph.D. (Pharmaceutics) in 2017 from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. During his Ph.D., he visited Queen’s University for six months under a Newton scholarship program. His research interests including polymeric drug delivery, microneedle-assisted non-invasive drug delivery, and long-acting drug delivery, specifically for infectious diseases.
