My mentor had a wealth of experience in many fields that are not typical psychology fields. This led to interesting discussions about the large range of opportunities that studying Psychology gives.

Having been on the panel of many interviews, my mentor was well equipped to set up a mock interview with me and give me feedback on how to improve.

Even now that the Alumni Mentoring scheme is over, my mentor has offered to help me with preparing for any interviews in the future, and I know that I can get in touch with him any time.

All in all, taking part in the Alumni Mentoring scheme was a valuable and enjoyable experience that has given me insight into several careers and has taught me practical skills for the future, leaving me feeling more equipped to make decisions concerning future careers and to tackle job interviews

I was delighted with my pairing as I want to pursue clinical psychology and the advice given to me has been so helpful in my understanding of how to achieve this.

Having a practicing clinical psychologist to ask questions, share worries and advise me on experiences to pursue was amazing.

If you are considering the mentoring programme, I couldn’t recommend it enough! You also may be paired with someone who isn’t exactly aligned to your desired career path. From friends who did the programme in this scenario, they got just as much out of talking to a professional in the workplace. The advice given on applying to jobs, careers in and outside psychology and opportunities highlighted is amazing.

Mentoring is a unique relationship, where your confidence grows and goals become more focused. The programme is a great way to begin thinking about your future and learning how to pursue your next steps.

We set up regular meetings on Microsoft Teams where we would focus on different topics that I sought help with. My mentor was very proactive, recommending websites and books to help me develop various skills.

He gave me a detailed insight into the general recruitment process explaining various ways potential employees are selected.  He enabled me to create a skeleton CV that I could modify for each new job that I applied to, and highlighted how I could talk about my existing experience of working in part-time jobs in an interview scenario.

I really appreciate all of my mentors support throughout the year and the time he set aside for me from his busy career.
