SANDWICH

A multicentre cluster-randomised stepped wedge trial to evaluate a protocol-based intervention for reducing the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation

Sedation AND Weaning In CHildren is a unique intervention that was developed collaboratively with PICU Doctors, Nurses, Patents, Young People & Methods Experts in the UK. The aim of the intervention is to provide a collaborative process for safe and efficient weaning of sedation and ventilation in children, an important patient priority.
The NIHR commisioned the SANDWICH Trial to evaluate the clinical and cost effectiveness, safety & sustainability of the SANDWICHQuality Improvement care bundle.

More than half of the PICUs in the UK have been trained and are using the SANDWICH Bundle. This website provides an overview of SANDWICH and the many materials, implementation and planning resources that were developed for use in the trial.
