CANTEEN study personal and public involvement

Aside from our Study Management Group (SMG) and Study Steering Committee (SSC) collaborators, we also meet with our Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) groups regularly (approximately 4 times per year).  We have an adult group who represent the adults we recruited onto the study (e.g. school staff and parents) and we have a youth group who represent the school pupils we recruited onto the study.  Our PPI is exceptionally important to us.  They guide our research in the right direction, from the perspective of those taking part and that is an invaluable contribution, which makes for good quality research.

Recruitment to our PPI groups took place in April 2023, after which in May 2023 we completed PPI training with all members.

Since recruitment and training, our PPI groups have:

  • Tested study tools for the observational study
  • Reviewed the short report for the observational study
  • Provided input about the questions we should include in the case study and the approaches we should take to collecting such data
  • Tested study tools for the case study

As a result of PPI input, several improvements have been made to study tools and resources.

At our next PPI meetings, we will discuss how best to disseminate study findings.
