The Marine Research Group is part of the School of Natural and Built Environment, and encompasses a wide variety of research into tidal and wave energy, coastal engineering, wave climate, and environmental interactions.

QML is also home to the state of the art coastal wave basin, measuring 18 x 16m with an operating depth of up to 0.65m.Powered by a 24 paddle Wave Maker the basin can produce regular and random waves to test scale model devices and wave interactions.
