Girls in Maths and Physics is an event to inspire young female mathematicians and their teachers. Bringing together inspirational speakers, fun activities and real life working mathematicians and physicists, this event is targeted at girls aged 12-16 who have an interest in mathematics, physics and their applications. Please see the attached flyer for the full programme.

This year we are delighted to welcome Professor Colm Mulcahy, from Spelman College in Atlanta, as our keynote speaker. Colm runs the Annals of Irish Mathematics & Mathematicians (AIMM) website (www.mathsireland.ie) which aims to document all Irish students who earned advanced mathematics degrees. Colm’s talk, entitled "Pioneering Women in Irish Maths & Physics", will highlight Irish women who have made significant contributions to pure and applied maths and mathematical physics from the 1860s to the present day.

There are a limited number of places available, so please register early at go.qub.ac.uk/gimap2022 to avoid disappointment. The deadline for registration is 31 May 2022.

The event is sponsored by Queen's School of Mathematics and Physics and the Athena SWAN Initiative. As part of the event lunch, will be provided for everyone taking part. Please indicate any dietary requirements for your pupils on the registration form.

The morning session will commence at 11am in the Larmor lecture theatre (1s on the attached map). Registration for the event will begin at 10:30am in the foyer of the Main Physics Building (L on the attached map). Please note that on-site parking is not available for this event. However, buses will be permitted entry to the main university site (University Square entrance) for drop-off and collection of pupils.

We hope some of your pupils will be interested. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
