Abstract: ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) is the world's largest and most advanced high-power laser infrastructure and a global technology and innovation leader in high-power, high-intensity, and short-pulsed laser systems. ELI ERIC is a multi-site, pan-European laser user facility operating some of the most intense lasers in the world and offering a unique combination of primary (lasers up to 10 PW peak power) and secondary (high-energy particles and X-rays) sources to the international user community.

The ELI Beamlines (ELI BL) facility in the Czech Republic is the high-energy pillar of the ELI ERIC consortium hosting four cutting edge high-peak, high-average power femtosecond laser systems and secondary sources offered to the user community both for fundamental and applied research. The ELI Attosecond Laser Pulse Sources (ELI ALPS) facility in Hungary is the attosecond science pillar offering ultrashort laser-based technologies to users for the investigation of ultrafast physical and chemical processes and applications in biology and material science. The ELI Nuclear Physics (ELI NP) facility in Romania hosts very high intensity lasers with peak power up to 10 PW and a brilliant, energy-tuneable gamma-ray beam system for advanced studies in plasma and nuclear physics. Currently, several beamlines and end-stations are operational and being upgraded to reach their full performances, while others are in their commissioning phase. An overview of the current user offer at the three ELI facilities and future capabilities in terms of research opportunities at multi-PW level will be presented.

The current performance of particle and radiation sources available at the ELI Beamlines facility will be presented and discussed in more detail along with their potential use for multidisciplinary applications. The high repetition rate capability of the available primary and secondary sources will be highlighted in combination with a range of advanced target delivery solutions and diagnostics in operation in extreme laser-plasma conditions (>10^21 W/cm^2 at >1 Hz and >5x10^18 W/cm^2 at 1 kHz).

Speaker's Bio: Dr. Margarone graduated with honours in Physics at Catania University (Italy) and received in 2006 a Marie Curie Fellowship at the Institute of Physics (IoP) of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS). From 2012-2022 he has been Senior Researcher at IoP-CAS, Head of Department of “Ion Acceleration and Applications of High Energy Particles” at the ELI Beamlines international user facility and responsible for the ELIMAIA (ELI Multidisciplinary Applications of laser-Ion Acceleration) beamline. After a spell as lecturer at Queen's University Belfast, he currently is the Director of Research and Operations of ELI Beamlines.
