STEM #Unfiltered 2021, sponsored by the IoP Ireland

16 July, 2021

We are excited to announce our second STEM photography competition!

STEM Competition 2021

This summer Queen’s University Belfast School of Maths and Physics and Institute of Physics Ireland are hosting the second STEM Unfiltered Photography Competition – and this time it’s even bigger! We were so impressed with the entries from Key Stage 3-5 students to our first competition in 2020 that we’ve open the competition up to even more age groups to let everyone get involved with the fun.  Send us your pictures of Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths together with an eye-opening description for your chance to win.  You can also check out the winning entries from last year and learn about the science behind magnets, the sunrise, bumble bees, the oceans and lots, lots more. There are now 24 Amazon vouchers to win over the 4 age categories so get curious!

STEM #Unfiltered is a competition to bring together and showcase images of beautiful Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) created by curious people of all ages from across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Check out our 2020 Winners gallery and our Researchers Gallery to be inspired!

More details:

Your image can focus on any aspect of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM). For example, the technology in your phone or TV, the changing colour of the autumn leaves, the incredible cranes around Belfast, science projects - science in the workplace explore the world around you and share it with us!  Some examples of everyday science as well as the science happening in our QUB labs is included in our gallery.

Both the image and description (< 250 words) should be created by you and not copied from another source. The winning entries will be chosen based on both the eye-catching nature of the image and the clarity and passion of your explanation of the STEM background behind the image.

The competition is open to all in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Each entrant can submit up to 5 entries showcasing their favourite STEM topics.

A panel of QUB researchers will review all entries and will choose a 1st and 2nd prize for each age group category as well as for 5 runners up. The results will be announced on 30th September 2021. Certificates will be sent to the prize winners and notable entries recognising their contributions.
