Ben Cadell - Student Profile

Current Research Project:
Investigating Exoplanet Systems with the Rossiter-McLaughlin Effect
I am developing code based off Dolan et al. 2024 to retrieve accurate stellar line-profiles from the broadband transmission spectra of a wide range of exoplanets, with a focus on the chromatic Rossiter-Mclaughlin effect. In addition to characterising exoplanets and their atmospheres, I will be investigating the properties of starspots and searching for the presence of exomoons and exorings.
Biography:
I completed my Physics MSci at the University of Birmingham in July 2025, completing projects in gravitational wave astrophysics and observational astronomy during my course. I moved to Queen's University Belfast in October 2025 to start my PhD in the Astrophysics Research Centre with Dr. Ernst de Mooij.
