STUDENT HANDBOOKS 2024-25

Undergraduate Student Handbook

Postgraduate Student Handbook

As we begin this new academic year together, it is perhaps worth taking a few moments to begin to reflect on where you want to be, academically speaking, 12 months from now, what you want to have achieved and then to begin to consider how you can realise the goals you are beginning to set for yourself. Since this handbook contains much that is relevant to this endeavour, you might begin to find, that simply by browsing through it, these goals become more firmly fixed in your own mind.  Not only will it aid you in setting those goals, it can also help you achieve them.  Take a moment to browse; you will begin to see that in your hands are answers to many of the questions that will naturally arise as you begin to move towards realising those academic goals.  This handbook will set you on the path to finding those answers, acting as a directory of whom to consult.

We take great pride in our teaching and still more in seeing those studying here set high goals for themselves and then seeing them achieve those goals.  We will work hard on your behalf and encourage you to do the same.  This is a special time in your life, one when you can achieve great things.  You are a member of a School with a strong commitment to excellent performance in teaching and learning. Your academic success in physics and or mathematics is our common shared objective.  Already, by coming as far along this path as you have, you have shown yourself to be a capable individual who can rise to a challenge.  As someone who can meet challenges, you can begin to see that this handbook contains a wide range of opportunities; represented in terms of the modules you are about to study.  Embrace each challenge, achieve each goal and enjoy the year ahead as you learn more about the wonderful, enriching subjects that are Mathematics and Physics.

Disclaimer: This handbook is intended to provide students with information specifically on the School of Mathematics & Physics and its degree programmes. It is intended to supplement School and University publications, rather than to replace them. In the event of any conflict between the contents of this handbook and School or University publications it is likely that we have got it wrong!
