Creative Responses to the Prisons Memory Archive - A Collaborative Exhibition

6 November, 2023

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland presents an engaging poster exhibition "Creative Responses to the Prisons Memory Archive." It was crafted collaboratively by storytellers and postgraduate students from Queen's University Belfast.

A women with long, straight, blond hair walking through the courtyard in Armagh Gaol. Her back is turned towards us.

This exhibition is an integral part of a practice-based research project within the School of Arts, English, and Languages at Queen's University Belfast.

Each poster is a unique response to materials sourced from historical documents from the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland and the National Archives UK, and recordings from the Prisons Memory Archive website (www.prisonsmemoryarchive.com). The PMA is a collection of 160 walk-and-talk recordings of those who passed through the prisons system during the Northern Ireland conflict.

This exhibition is an integral part of a practice-based research project within the School of Arts, English, and Languages at Queen's University Belfast. Focused on the creative re-use of audio-visual archival material in participatory settings with the public, it offers a compelling exploration of historical narratives.

When: From Monday 6th of November until Monday 4th of December (12pm!) during PRONI opening hours (Mon-Wed and Fri 9 am - 4:45 pm, Thursday 10 am - 4:45 pm)

If you are interested to meet the researcher/curator at the exhibition, please get in touch with Katharina (k.bock@qub.ac.uk) for a meeting on Monday 4th of December before 12pm.

Venue: Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, 2 Titanic Boulevard, Titanic Quarter, Belfast, BT3 9HQ, UK

Alternatively, you can browse through the posters online
