Decolonisation: Language, Community, Culture

Collaborative bilingual conference: Díchoilíniú: Teanga, Pobal agus Cultúr | Decolonisation: Language, Community, Culture

Registration for upcoming conference organised between QUB and Glór na Móna, funded by the Royal Irish Academy and Foras na Gaeilge

Date: 5 May 2023

Time: 9:00 – 17:00

Location: St. Comgall's, 277 Falls Road, Belfast BT12 6FD

Is deis atá sa siompóisiam seo iniúchadh agus plé a dhéanamh ar an obair mhór atá déanta ag gníomhaithe teanga agus pobail, scoláirí agus staraithe, ealaíontóirí agus ceoltóirí – le breis agus céad bliain anuas – agus iad ag féachaint i dtreo díchoilíniú teanga, sóisialta, dlíthiúil, eacnamaíochta, agus cultúrtha. Agus comóradh á dhéanamh ar an chogadh ar son na saoirse agus ar an chríochdheighilt, is am tráthúil é seo chun ceisteanna agus taighde nua a spreagadh ar bhonn áitiúil agus náisiúnta.

***

This fully bilingual symposium provides an opportunity to assess and discuss the contributions of language and community activists, students, historians, and artists in their efforts towards linguistic, social, legal, economic, and cultural decolonisation in the past one hundred years. In the context of ongoing commemorations of the struggle for independence and partition, the symposium aims to initiate new conversations and encourage new research at local and national levels.

A note on language. There are two streams to this fully bilingual conference. Proceedings in Room 1 will be conducted through Irish and proceedings in Room 2 will be conducted bilingually and will be fully accessible to non-Irish speakers (ie. panels and discussions will either be in English or will be simultaneously translated into English by our on-site interpreter).

All welcome. Please register here:
