This concert will feature guitarist and composer Aonghus McEvoy’s Solo #1 for Acoustic Guitar (2016), as well as composer Eva-Maria Houben’s piece, talking to a friend parlando: speaking (2014, UK Premiere). In Solo #1 for Acoustic Guitar, McEvoy utilises materials drawn from his experience as an improvisor. Small ideas are organised in a modular structure. Physical repetition is employed as a tool to develop the component parts of the piece and to articulate the relationship between body and instrument. In talking to a friend, the guitar becomes a voice.

Aonghus is a composer, improviser and guitar-player based in Ireland. He explores the intersections between composition and improvisation, oblique restraint and histrionic rock excess. Aonghus has performed with musicians such as Rhodri Davies, Annette Krebs, Ludo Mich, Tristan Clutterbuck, Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh, David Lacey & Damo Suzuki.
