We are delighted to welcome BMus student Brendan Kerr and Master’s student Catriona Gribben to lift our spirits with a recorded relay from Queen’s of traditional and new Irish tunes. There will be a selection of their own compositions as well as tunes such as McGoldrick's jig, Donegal Lass, Homer's Reel and Banshee Reel.

Watch again here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIZQ-iunLto&ab_channel=SARC

Brendan was introduced to traditional Irish music through Irish dancing from a very young age, competing up to world championship level until he was 18. Through dance, he discovered trad Irish music and wanted to learn the tunes to which he had spent spent years dancing; he started off learning whistle, then picking up guitar and bodhrán along the way. Catriona, a piano accordionist, hails from the Gaeltacht region of Gweedore in Co. Donegal. Growing up, Catriona was totally immersed in Irish culture, music and song and this shows in her natural style of performing. She has travelled extensively with the traditional band An Crann Óg with gigs around Ireland, the UK, Germany and USA. As a returning student to Queen’s, having achieved first class honours in Music and Audio production, she is completing a Masters in Research at present.

Both Catriona and Brendan play a significant role in the traditional music events and projects in Belfast and at QUB.
