Talk with Ruth Meehan and Screening of 'The Bright Side'

AEL SWAN are delighted that renowned Irish Writer/Director Ruth Meehan will be joining us for International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8th March 2022.

Ruth will be discussing her experiences of working in both Film and Television over the past 20 years and this will be followed by the Screening of her Award nominated Film The Bright Side

BIOG

Ruth Meehan is a writer/director who has created multiple award-winning & nominated work for both film and television in Ireland and Britain since the early 2000s. She is a graduate of the NFTS in Beaconsfield, UK and has made numerous short films which have garnered international awards. Over the past fifteen years, Ruth has also made award-winning documentaries for Irish television.

Along with her documentary work, Ruth has also developed three feature films with funding from Screen Ireland and was commissioned to write the feature film Raven On The Wing, for Bedlam Productions London (The King’s Speech). In 2015 Ruth directed 4 episodes of the tv series Red Rock for Element Pictures, Dublin. Recognising and nurturing emerging talent is important to Ruth and over the years she has guest lectured, delivered industry professional talks and mentored students of film at The Lir Academy, Dublin, masters students in Film at IADT, Dublin, acting students at Bow Street Acting Academy, Dublin. In 2019 Ruth set up Playground Pictures with Tony Deegan to produce The Bright Side which she co-wrote, directed and exec produced in 2020. The Bright Side is the recipient of the Audience Award at the 2020 Cork International Film Festival.  It also received the Jury Award Honourable Mention at the Sonoma International Film Festival in California in 2021 and the Prix du Public at Le Grand Logis film festival, Brittany, France. In recent weeks 'The Brightside' has received two nominations at the IFTA's (Irish Film and Television Awards) 2022.
