‘How To’ - Working in the Screen Industry with ScreenSkills and QUB

Ever thought of working in drama or comedy TV? Even if your answer is NO! please join us in the Film Studio, Queen’s Film Theatre from 1.30 -5.30pm on Tuesday Feb 21 for the opportunity to spend the afternoon meeting screen industry professionals and learning how you can find rewarding work in High-end TV Production in Northern Ireland—and beyond.

Did you know that high-end TV productions now filming in Northern Ireland need the skills of business, computer science, art students and graduates from a wide range of disciplines?  ScreenSkills, the UK-wide industry-led skills body for the screen industries – film, television (including children's, unscripted and high-end), VFX (visual effects), animation and games, is partnering with QUB to provide career insights and screen industry contacts during Career week. Meet TV professionals who have worked on productions from Game of Thrones to Derry Girls and find out why YOUR academic background, interests and personality may be just what is needed behind-the-scenes.

This interactive session will be followed by the opportunity to network with craft, technical and production crew members to learn more jobs you might fill in the screen industry.

ScreenSkills, the UK-wide industry-led skills body for the screen industries – film, television (including children's, unscripted and high-end), VFX (visual effects), animation and games, will partner with QUB Film Studies to provide career insights and industry contacts.

Hosted by Liz Barron, ScreenSkills Training and Workforce Liaison Manager in Northern Ireland

This workshop will provide practical support to help you find opportunities to work in High-End TV—drama, comedy and factual programmes that cost more than £1m per hour on screen.

Hosted by Helen Haswell, Lecturer in Film and Digital Production. We will hear from past QUB alum who will share their stories on how they successfully gained a career in Screen

2.45pm—4pm

Meet industry professionals who have worked on productions from Game of Thrones to Derry Girls and try your hand at some of the craft, technical and production office skills in short supply right now in Northern Ireland. Learn what departments are looking for in entry-level crew and get to know some people who can share advice on how to get a start in the screen industry. Don’t miss this chance to make a great first impression.

4pm—5pm

Grab a drink and some nibbles and spend an hour networking with the industry professionals and alumni who you have met throughout the afternoon.
