With live music from Juanita Rea (Visiting Scholar - AEL, Founder - eduSOIL ) who lived in Khartoum from 2018 - 2020. She will perform with Chip Bailey and Cameron Gibson. There will also be songs from the Caidre Community Choir and Rory Nellis.

The programme includes fun sing-alongs and drumming, inspiring poetry and paintings from Sudanese artists and moving personal testimonies from people who had to flee from Khartoum. There will be conversations with members of the Sudanese Youth Group and the broader community about what is happening in Sudan, the role of protest art during the Sudanese Revolution and the wealth of Sudan and Africa as a whole.

Come to sing-along and drum to uplifting songs and Sudanese protest chants that promote peace, positivity and people power!

 Impact of inaugural concert

Proceeds from the inaugural concert held at the Sonic Lab on May 24th, song sales and the eduSOIL fundraiser totalling £1157 enabled eduSOIL to help musician/graphic designer, Ayman Mohammed to evacuate to Ethiopia as well as to support people in Khartoum with funds for basic supplies. QUB staff members, Ayah Aljunaid (QUB Students Union Assistant Supervisor) and Zeinab Abdelrahman (Post-doc, Centre for Public Health) are now involved with the June 28th event and future benefit concerts in Belfast over the summer.

Contribute to this event

QUB students, staff and members of the public, especially local artists are invited to contribute poetry, music or visual art that connects with the 'Songs for Sudan' aim of responding to conflict through art and civic action. This is an invitation to stand in solidarity with Sudanese people affected by the war and is not a platform for promotion or politics. Please contact Juanita j.rea@qub.ac.uk by 8.00pm, Wednesday 21st June if you wish to contribute a piece.
