Date(s)
January 31, 2024
Location
Ulster Museum, Botanic Gardens, BT9 5AB
Time
13:00 - 14:30

The Ulster Museum will host a special documentary screening and presentation on the discovery and restoration of unique ‘casta’ paintings by Ms Tara Munroe (Creative Director of Opal22 Arts and Edutainment, Curator, Historian and Decolonization Specialist).

Based on research conducted at the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, the film explores the process of decolonising racial classification portraits that originated in eighteenth-century Mexico. We will also hear from curators Anna Leisching and Tríona White Hamilton about the colonial gaze in art and history collections at the Ulster Museum.

You can access a taster of the film here.

The event is free and will take place in the Lecture Theatre of the Ulster Museum, further details available here or contact Dr Fiona Clark (f.clark@qub.ac.uk)
