It works! Our Psychology Alumni Mentoring Programme

10 May, 2022

Congratulations to the first wave of Psychology students and alumni mentors who graduated from our Mentoring Programme on 21 March 2022.

Botanic Gardens Palm House

In October 2021, we launched a pilot alumni mentoring programme based on the successful programmes already in place with AHSS and QGI.

Patricia Murphy (Alumni Engagement Manager) successfully recruited mentors based in NI, UK and as far as Canada.   As this was a pilot, only Level 2 undergraduate students were invited to apply and 10 matches were made.

Mentors and students were able to avail of information booklets and virtual briefing sessions to understand the programmes aims, their role in the programme and the key components of mentoring.

Patricia said about the programme:

“This has been an incredible opportunity to connect likeminded students and alumni.  I’m delighted to see the rewards reaped for both parties in terms of growth in confidence, goal achievement and the feeling of giving back.  I’m really looking forward to the 2022 programme which will be launched in the Autumn”.

And feedback from mentees indicated that:

“[Mentoring] has made me look at the bigger picture and not panic as much about the future and the end goal and more appreciate the journey”.

“It has made me more focused on my goal, with clear direction and next steps in pursuing this pathway”
