Olga Akhmetova

Olga is a qualified practicing Psychologist and Sociologist from Ukraine, with research interests in Neuropsychology, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and using Electroencephalography (EEG) for understanding how the brain controls behaviour.

Olga moved to Dublin in spring 2022 and started working in Trinity College in Neuroscience Institute, School of Psychology as a research assistant. She has worked in a clinical research setting in St. James’ Hospital Dublin as part of a research project testing a new form of upper limb therapy for stroke patients, and has co-supervised student research projects in Neuroscience and Human Health and Disease courses. She assists with research data collection and training of team members via instructional videos.

In September 2022 she was co-applicant on a successful grant application with the Health Research Board in Ireland, and was awarded funding to conduct a project on new approaches to treating functional neurological disorders. Olga is also responsible for social media communications for Neuroscience Ireland, Irelands largest association of Neuroscience researchers. Since autumn 2023 she moved to Belfast and now works with Dr Kathy Ruddy in Queens University Belfast as a research assistant.

Aside from professional interests, she is fond of meditation, running and writing fantasy novels. Some of her books were published in Ukraine. Olga has a 16-year-old daughter and they both are very thankful to the Irish and Northern Irish for help and support for Ukrainian refugees.
