Celebrating Innovation and Impact: Data for a Good Datathon 2025
Last week we proudly hosted the Data for a Good Datathon, bringing together some of the brightest minds in data analytics to tackle pressing challenges in Northern Ireland’s healthcare system.
Working in partnership with industry leaders, the event showcased the power of data-driven thinking in addressing real-world issues that affect us all.
A Day of Purpose-Driven Problem Solving
After a day of training, the postgraduate students worked in dynamic teams to explore open health data and develop strategic solutions to some of the most urgent problems facing the region’s healthcare services. From increasing hospital wait times to the closure of GP practices and social care facilities, participants were tasked with proposing innovative, data-informed strategies to improve outcomes for patients and communities.
The Datathon was more than just a competition—it was a learning experience. Students received hands-on training in data analytics using Alteryx, thanks to a generous $15 million donation from the software provider. The training also included deep dives into the structure of the healthcare system and the challenges it faces, ensuring participants were well-equipped to make meaningful contributions.
