Social relations on the island of Ireland and across the diaspora take shape against a history of remarkable change and conflict, often underpinned by multiple and complex solidarities. Understanding the power of, and responses to, these forces, as they play out in contextually specific ways, is crucial to the project of sociology.

The SAI provides a platform for in-depth exploration of these and other aspects of social life on the island of Ireland and beyond. Our conference aims to foster critical discussion and advance sociological understanding of the dynamics of social conflicts and transformations, as they interact in complex ways with multiple and shifting solidarities.
