"Anything is possible - the implications and opportunities afforded by co-production"

Dr Sarah Wishart, EachOther

In early 2018 Sarah began work on conceiving of a feature length documentary which she thought was going to be about Rights Respecting Schools. Instead, she made a film inspired by direct-action activism on school exclusion by an affected group that ended up being co-produced with some of those young people with lived and learned experience of exclusion. Sarah wanted to ensure that the people most often left out of the conversation on exclusion, were able to centre the issues they cared about the most. Embedding a rights-led  process, Sarah created opportunities throughout to stop, listen and learn. This seminar will show the routes Sarah took in creating the documentary, and the ways in which young people shaped the process and changed the direction of EachOther in the process.
